MD or PhD in physical or biological sciences. Preference given to those individuals with previous experience in laboratory medicine. Submit curriculum vitae, copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, selected first author publications for initial consideration. Selected applicants may be invited to an interview that includes a seminar presentation and to submit 3 letters of reference.
The program mission is to train individuals with a PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or related field or a MD with interests in clinical biochemistry for a career in academic clinical chemistry that includes service, teaching and research.
The minimum period of the fellowship is two years. Upon completing the fellowship, individuals will be proficient in the clinical utilization and interpretation of laboratory tests, be knowledgeable in the latest research applications of clinical biochemistry, and have experience in education and management related to laboratory medicine.
Trainees will participate in teaching medical technologists, medical students and hospital staff. They will be expected to conduct a research project and present data at national meetings.
The experience will provide the opportunity to gain bench experience in the laboratory and provide consultation to laboratory technical staff, nurses, residents and hospital medical staff.
