But go for the if you can assuming it's sound. Ta SP. I'm more of a sorta guy ie old so I didnt know much about trendy new tubing.
I was daft enough to ring the owner of the frame and tell him its a decent bit of stuff. Only after that did I think I might want to buy it myself I did see this frame yesterday and apart from the H in Raleigh being a bit crumpled it looked new. I want it even more now. Hilldodger said:. Tho' it came in several flavours, some better than others. It wasn't exactly the base - others came lower - for one tho' I've never heard of Broadly speaking, the higher the number, the better.
There's debate over whether there's any substantive difference between and I had a raleigh record ace, asked the local raleigh dealer what the difference was he'd not sold me it either could be TIg welded and had to be brazed.

I happen to have I too am a fan of steel frames but not the original components and i think with Raleighs, because they are quite common, purists don't get to hung up on a Frankenstein concoction. If i regret one thing about my custom build, with a raleigh frame, it was i didn't research enough about the frame i. I think this and budget lead me to choose poorly when it came to the bottom bracket.

I now have, with regret, a threadless bottom bracket in the bike after trying a stronglight and shimano threaded. Did you have any issues with such an old frame? You haven't missed anything, only two pics shown so far. No probs with that. Location West London. Sterba said:. Thanks for showing the catalogues. Like you, I expect the original owner of this one asked for a few mods before he took delivery.
The Brooks saddle seems to have had the same amount of use as other items, so could well have been fitted from new. No brake hoods, which might have worn away with use, and thick foam handlebar covers, which were probably a later fit. Clearly, the Weinmann brakes can cope with both c and 27" rims, but they couldn't stop a rice pudding sliding down a drain. Cycleops Legendary Member. Location Accra, Ghana. The thick foam handlebar grips are "Grab-on" from the US. Nice bike.
So, with apologies for the delay, here is the rest of the story about the conversion of my Raleigh Record Ace. First, here are the components I took off.
