Parent Review 6y ago. Cleveland Heights High School. Both of my daughters attended school in the CHUH school district.
These are excellent schools. Not good. My children were given the opportunity to excel academically, and did so: both went on to attended universities with strong national reputations. They took many AP credits with them. In addition to the excellence in the usual academic subjects, the CHUH schools excel in the arts. There is a vocal music program that puts on an annual show that you actually want to go see, not merely suffer through because your kid is in it.
The instrumental music department inspired my first daughter to become a music teacher herself. Again, the concert performances are genuinely good, not something to be suffered through. First time parents always express surprise that the concerts were pleasant to listen to. My younger daughter excelled in the visual arts department, with many of her pieces placed in public exhibits where they won a variety of awards.
Many of these successes are directly attributable to the high quality of education my children received. I can only wish that I had attended such high quality schools myself as a child. More generally, now speaking as a college professor rather than as a parent, graduates of CHUH are well prepared for college. They do as well or better as students from many private schools. Locally, CHUH is equal or superior to most private schools e. Only Laurel is clearly superior.
If you cannot afford that, you would be wasting money to send your children to any other private school in the area. The numerical rating on this website is generated from statistical information that is known to be inherently racist. It basically measures the socio-economic status of the community.
CHUH is a mixed community, with both rich and poor residents. Many of the richer residents fear the misleading numerical score and send their children to private school, thus making it a self-fulfilling prophecy. If they all sent their children to the public schools, the score would jump from 2 to 8. This is entirely predictable based on socio-economics. To reiterate: the numerical score measures the socio-economic status of the students it serves.
It does not reflect the quality of what the schools do in any meaningful way. Lies, damned lies, and statistics. The schools themselves offer an excellent education. Parent Review 5y ago. Roxboro Middle School. My eighth grade daughter has gone here for all three years and has had a great experience.
The technology in the classroom, including the iPads, leads to new, unexpected learning, just like any other new tool, and present challenges.
The teachers have the ability to monitor each student's online activity in real-time and correct behavior if necessary. The racial and socio-economic mix at the school, we feel, is a benefit, not a problem, and makes my children much more open-minded and aware. The flight of upper-middle class children to private schools is frustrating and skews test scores and classroom make-up, but happens in most similar schools.
The gifted program teachers and extra-curricular activities, especially music, are amazing. Cleveland Heights also has the challenge of a very transient population, with a high change rate of students entering and leaving the school due to parents moving into and out of the school district. The community just passed a school bond issue to renovate all of the middle schools and the high school over the next five years which will help a lot. Parent Review 7y ago. What Locals Say about Cleveland Heights. Dog Owners. Trulia User. Resident 1y ago. Traffic flow pretty fast during the morning rush. Same in the afternoon coming back to Cleveland Heights". Very honest and hard working neighborhood I love how the community always work together!! Either that or like a dog water pond like how the kids have.
Planing on buying a home here soon. Always felt comfortable and safe no matter the time of night or day. However my favorite are the mini music concerts or block parties in the summer.
Grocery stores are horrible. Would never buy a home here". Roxboro Middle School. My eighth grade daughter has gone here for all three years and has had a great experience. I would definitely recommend ". Great trash pick up! A community event with different themes of music each week. The schools could be better but the police response is great! Beautiful and picturesque snapshot of what the suburbs look like in Cleveland.
I have a bus stop right outside my front door and not a far walk to the other one. Around Coventry can be shady but a little further away the houses are beautiful. Rent a house, not an apartment if you can.
Criminal element has moved in. Shootings, drug dealing, trash thrown everywhere. East Cleveland sprawling south. Now my kids go to school jere very family friendly.
Police out regularly. Shootings periodically. Trash blowing around every week since they have no can pickup. Package theft a problem. Not safe. Resident 2y ago. Love it so much ". Police presence is seen frequently. Also lots of shops, restaurants, bars and theatre right up the street. Cleveland heights has a reputation for not having the best school district though, so if that's important to you Lots of great restaurants and shops, but can be a pain if you want to get to the west side quickly ".
Visitor 2y ago. There is a dog park up the road about 7 to 10 miles away. It is a diverse mix of type of dogs. Owners take care of their dogs. The only thing missing is a dog park.
I lived off of E. Now that I've moved to Cleveland Hts its definitely a commute to the highway". It is an all around great place to live!
Also, the diversity is unparalleled for the Cleveland area. Resident 3y ago. It's a good icebreaker and opportunity to meet your neighbors. Sidewalks are kept clean and a majority of dogs are leashed.
Most dogs are very well behaved. The only thing that is wrong with Cleveland Heights is the amount of skunks running around. I live close enough to my job and I am able to ride my bike to work. I see people walking and running with their dogs every day! People are friendly and neighborly. People try their best to maintain good neighborhood vibes and it seems that everyone is striving to keep a positive, friendly, safe neighborhood.
